  1. boil tap water in a kettle
  2. using a measuring cylinder, add 200cm3 of water into each beaker
  3. place the lid on the top of the beaker, push the thermometer through and clamp it so it does not touch the sides or bottom of the beaker
  4. wait until the temperature on the thermometer stops rising
  5. start the stopwatch. measure the temperature every 30s in each beaker for 15 minutes or until the temperature stops changing
