what is frequency
the portion of one type of thing to the total population frequency will range between 0 to 1. all frequency together will add up to 1
what is a ratio
the portion of one type of thing to another
how do you calculate ratio
devide all numbers in a series by the lowest number for example: 26 freckled students and 30 with out the ratio is (26/26):(30/26) which comes to 1 freckled : 1.15 non freckled
how do you calculate the frequency of
for example if you have 26/50 students with freckles that would = 0.46 while with out is 30/50= 0.54 (0.46+0.30)=1
what is a gene
a factor of inharatence for a particular trait or charicteristic of an organism.
what is a gene composed of
specific nucleotide sequence in the DNA. the sequence acts as a template for RNA synthesis and ultimately the formation of a specific protein in a cell
what is heterozygous
a diploid organism is said to be heterozygous for a particular gene or genes if it has two different alleles for the gene or genes
what is homozygous
a diploid organism is said to be homozygous for a particular gene or genes if it has two identical alleles for the gene or genes

its used to simulate all possible combinations of male and female gametes to form offspring
what is a monohybrid cross
its a cross between two organisms that differ with respect to one charicteristiv
for the fast plant stems giving in the previous lab what determined if the stem was purple or not
the color was regulated by the gene for anthocyanin production. plants with purple stems have the allele which codes for the production of anthocyanin
