Why was Henry Tudor in France?

A

after Richard and the Duke of Brittany united against France, Henry Tudor had to flee to France
however as Brittany withdrew he lost the support of the French king

despite this Henry Tudor managed to raise finances and assembled a small force and recruited French Mercenaries

Henry’s force consisted of those who fled after the failed rebellion of 1483
this included very experienced commanders and fighting men such as the Earl of Pembroke, the Earl of Oxford and Sir Edward Woodville

he sent summons to Lords and commissioners of array
However, the message downplayed the size of Henry’s army so there was a lack of urgency
