Q

How did Henry make use of having Warbeck in his custody?

A

Henry used Warbeck in the negotiations to remedy the trade dispute between England and the Low Countries in the summer of 1498

Warbeck confessed that the deceit was the creation of Margaret of Burgundy.

Henry VIl used this to put pressure on the Duchess, calling on her formally to renounce her support for Yorkist rebels
in September 1498 she relented and asked for the king’s forgiveness.

Q

How did Henry manage to maintain his authority despite all the threats of The Pretenders?

A

Henry VII managed to survive through a series of rebellions and plots to unseat him from his throne between 1485 and 1499 and saw an end to the uncertainty over the succession of the English crown.

It is possible that much of this was a result of his character, which had not only helped him to victory in battle but also to win over the support of the aristocracy.
