What is attachment?
A significant connection to another person such as a baby to primary caregiver
What are the steps in the test that measure attachment?
Strange situation Test:
- Mother and baby play
- A stranger enters and the mother leaves
- Observe babies reaction
- Mother returns
- Observe babies reaction
- Repeat process
What is secure attachment?
60% of infants, they are moderately upset when mom leaves and happy when she returns.
What is anxious/avoidant attachment?
About 15% Indifferent when mother leave and the room and when she returns.
What is anxious/ambivalent/resistant attachment?
About 10% of babies, they have a strong reaction to mothers absence, mixed emotions at reunion
What is puberty?
Development of primary and secondary sex characteristics
What is primary sex characteristics?
Changes in body structure that occur using puberty that to do specifically with the reproductive system
What is secondary sex characteristics
Changes that occur during puberty that differ according to gender, but aren’t directly related to sex
What is the formal operational period?
Is where one can think about ideas conceptually without needing concrete referents
- adolescent egocentrism, personal fable, and imaginary audience
What is the cellular clock theory
Aging is built into our cells
What is the wear-and-tear theory?
The more mileage we put on our body, the quicker it wears out
What is the free radical theory?
We get more free radicals (oxygen) in our system, causing more damage and aging to our bodies
