What is individual therapy?
One on one with therapist and the client.
What is group therapy?
Therapist meets with several clients with similar problems simultaneously
What are self-help groups?
People. With similar problems meet to support each other without guidance from a clinician
What is family therapy?
When the whole family meets with the therapist who helps the whole family to change
What is family systems theory?
Each family has its own rules, structure, and communication patters that shape behaviour.

What is couples therapy or realtionships counciling?
Two people in a long term-relationship meet together with therapist
What are therapy outcome studies?
Research that looks at the effects of various treatments
What are things successful therapists do?
- they provide feedback to clients
- They help clients focus on their own thoughts and behaviour
- they pay careful attention to the way they’re and their clients interact
- They try to build a sense of self-mastery in their clients

Phobias
What are cognitive-behavioural therapies effective in?
Social anxity, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and depression
What are drug therapies most effective in?
Schizophrenia and bipolar
Is therapy effective across race and gender?
- Members of minority groups worldwide seek therapies less and benefit less from them then do majority group members
- Culture sensitive therapies take into account cultural values and stresses specific to groups
- Gender-sensitive or feminist therapies acknowledge stressors girls and women face.
