Section 7 : Predictive, Plan-Based Approach Flashcards
How is a predictive, plan-based approach ?
- Trying to achieve a specific goal
- There is a clear understanding of the steps needed to reach that goal
- Involves:
* Creating a plan outlining the steps that will be
taken to achieve the goal
* Using data and predictions about the future
to guide the execution of the plan
How appropriaetly do you use a predictive, plan-based approach ?
- When a goal is well-defined, and there is a clear path to achieving it
- When the future is somewhat predictable
- When you have limited resources
How to well define a goal ?
- Efficiently and effectively
- Clear understanding of what you want to accomplish
- Plan to achieve it
How to deal with an unpredictable future ?
- Challenges
- Opportunities
- A good understanding of the factors that will influence the outcome of efforts
- A reasonable way to make predictions about how factors will change over time
If you never perform a work you can estimate the time (-/+)
How to deal with limited ressources ?
- Prioritizing the most important tasks (Must, Could, Should, Would)
- Allocating resources
- Time
- Money
- Equipment
- Team members
When is it appropriate to use predictive for an organization ?
*When the project is organizational Goal-oriented
* Clear hierarchy of responsibilities
* Strong leadership and management
* Efficient communication and collaboration
* Tasks and activities are aligned with the overall goals of the organization
* Resources are used efficiently to achieve those goals
What are the characteristics of a predictive environnement ?
- Clearly defined roles and responsibilities
- Strong leadership and management
- Efficient communication and collaboration
How does the roles and responsibilities are clearly defined ?
- Tasks
- Activities
- Identify who is responsible for each task
- Create a plan that outlines how tasks will be completed
Having a RAM (Responsibility assignement matrix)
How do you have a strong leadership and management ?
- Plan executed effectively
- Deviations are addressed
- Clear chain of command
- Monitoring progress and adjusting
How to establish an effective communication and collaboration ?
- Coordinate efforts
- Ensure that tasks are completed on time and as expected
- Well-suited to using a predictive, plan-based approach
What type of organization is suitable for a predictive ? What is unsuitable for a predictive ?
What is the differences between goals and objectives ?
Goals
* Broad statements that describe what an organization or project is working towards
Objectives
* Specific, measurable targets that help to achieve the overall goals
What is the difference between tasks vs deliverables ?
Tasks
* Individual steps or activities that are required to complete a project
Deliverables
* Specific outputs or results that are produced as a result of completing those tasks
What the difference between plans and schedules ?
Plans
* Outline the steps and tasks that are required to achieve the goals and objectives of a project
Schedules
* Provide a timeline for completing those tasks and show when each task is expected to be completed
What is the difference between resources and budget ?
Resources
* Personnel, materials, and equipment that are needed to complete a project
Budget
* Financial plan for a project, including the costs of the resources needed and any other expenses
