Hypersensitivity reactions Flashcards
type 1 hypersensitivity reaction
immediate, IgE-mediated, mild or severe
prurititis, urticaria, facial edema, anaphylaxis
includes skin/food allergies, asthma, insect bites, drug reactions, vaccine reactions
type 2 hypersensitivity reaction
Ab binds to Ag located on the surface of cells resulting in cell lysis or phagocytosis
immune-mediated anemia/thrombocytopenia, vasculitis, skin disease (pemphigus)
type 3 hypersensitivity reaction
Ag-Ab (circulating immune) complexes that cause acute inflammation in tissues
joints, skin, kidneys, lungs, brain, erythema multiforme, types of vasculitis, pneumonitis, glomerulonephritis, rheumatoid/polyarthritis
type 4 hypersensitivity reaction
T cell-mediated immune reactions that provoke an inflammatory reaction against Ags, delayed-type (may take days)
allergic contact hypersensitivity
