Vagabonds:
A
- After 1500, because of growing population, falling wages and rising food prices meant that more people left their village for jobs.
- When a vagabond arrived in a new village, it was not always easy to seek work.
- A common view was that they were lazy

Control the Land:
A
- New farming methods had serious consequences for the rural poor.
- Large areas of land which the poor had been previously been able to access were enclosed.
- Enclosure made it harder for village people to survive.
- Tried to resist the enclosures by pulling down new fences.

- In the 16th century was rocked by political instability
- The many changes to the law showed how much power the monarch had in decided what counted as criminal activity.
- Almost 300 people were executed as heretics during Mary’s reign.
- A change of ruler could make the everyday religious activities into criminal acts.

- In 1645, Hopkins and his assistant began looking for witches in East Anglia.
- Named 36 women as witches, many of them were vulnerable old women
- He exhausted his subjects by keeping them awake for multiple days at a time.
