stage, a person can cope with normal

GAS require a great deal of energy.

If a stressor persists, or if several stressors
occur in succession, general exhaustion
sets in.

This is not the sort of exhaustion
you feel after a long, busy day; rather,

state. The body’s resources are depleted
rending it unable to sustain normal
function. If this stage is extended, long‐
term damage may result, expressing
itself in ulcers, digestive system trouble,
depression, diabetes, cardiovascular
