1
Q

What are arteries?

A

Always vessels carrying blood AWAY from the heart

Almost always carry oxygenated blood

Red in diagrams

2
Q

What are veins?

A

Always carry blood BACK to the heart

Almost always blood is deoxygenated

Blue in diagrams

3
Q

What is the superior vena cava?

A

Draining blood from head and arms to heart

4
Q

What is the inferior vena cava?

A

Drains blood from legs (lower body) to the heart

5
Q

What is the right atrium?

A

Muscular chamber

Drains blood to right ventricle

6
Q

What is the right ventricle?

A

Muscular chamber

Goes to valve and valve shuts off and directs blood to pulmonary trunk

7
Q

What is a valve?

A

Swinging doors that open one way

8
Q

Does the pulmonary trunk split into a left and right pulmonary artery?

A

Yes

9
Q

What kind of blood is the pulmonary trunk and arteries carrying?

A

Deoxygenated blood

10
Q

What kind of blood is the pulmonary veins carrying?

A

Oxygenated blood

11
Q

What is the left atrium?

A

Muscular chamber

Brings blood to left ventricle

12
Q

What does the left ventricle do?

A

Fills with blood and goes to aorta to the body and not back in left atrium

13
Q

What is a papillary muscle?

A

Finger like structures in ventricles

14
Q

What are the chordae tendineae?

A

Heart strings that are connected to the papillary muscle that keep the valves close

15
Q

What is the first vessel of the pulmonary circuit?

A

Pulmonary trunk

16
Q

What is the direction of blood flow starting from Superior and inferior vena cava?

A

Superior and inferior vena cava bring blood to RA and RV

RA and RV bring blood to pulmonary trick that separates into right and left pulmonary arteries

Right and left pulmonary arteries go to lungs

Right and left pulmonary veins bring blood from lungs to heart

Blood goes in to LA and LV into aorta

Then body

17
Q

What is the valve between the right atrium and ventricle?

A

Tricuspid Valve

Or

Right atrioventricular valve

18
Q

What is the valve between the Left atrium and ventricle?

A

Bicuspid valve

Or

Left atrioventricular valve

19
Q

What is the valve between the right atrium and pulmonary trunk?

A

Right semilunar valve

Or

Pulmonary semilunar valve

20
Q

What is the valve between the left ventricle and the aorta?

A

Left semilunar valve

Or

Aortic semilunar valve
