–어/아/여, 이야/야

A

The intimate style is a speech mood used with someone who is of an equal or lower status. In terms of the intimate style, there are formal and informal speech levels. The final ending of the intimate style is to put “-어/아/여” at the end of a verb stem, which means “요” is deleted from the informal polite style of “-어요/아요/여요.” This form could also be used to a person of higher status if she/he is close to the speaker.

  • 수업은 9시에 시작해서 1시에 끝나.
  • 화 났어? 왜 아무 말도 안 해?
  • 언니, 모르는 단어가 있는데 좀 가르쳐 줘.
  • 너무 더운데 찬문을 좀 열까?

“-이야/야” is used for “이에요/예요” after a noun.

  • 우리 집은 신촌 근처야.
  • 저 사람은 아주 유명한 사람이야.

–이나/나

A

It is used to express a suggested choice by using it at the end of a noun. But the suggestion is not the best option for the speaker. In other words, the speaker can’t choose the best one so he/she suggests another option to choose from. In case of putting together with other particles, it adds a meaning of suggestion to the original meaning of the particle.

  • 심심한데 영화나 한 편 볼까요?
  • 방학이 짧아서 공부나 하려고 합니다.
  • 시간이 없어서 샌드위치나 먹으려고 해요.
  • 별일 없으면 같이 동대문 시장에나 갑시다.

The intimate style of the formal honorific final ending in a declarative sentence “¬-습니다/ㅂ니다” is “-는다/ㄴ다, -다,” The intimate style of the final ending in an interrogative sentence “-습니까/ㅂ니까?” is “-니?” The intimate style of the imperative final ending “-으십시오/십시오” is “-어라/아라/여라.” The intimate style of formal speech can be made to a person of the same or lower status. However it cannot be used with an older person. On the other hand, the intimate style form can widely used in journals.

A

It is used after an action verb to indicate that a decision has been made to do that action. Generally it is used in the case when the decision is made after man people discussed it together.
