2
Q

role of enzyme

A

Enzymes have specific active site which is complementary to a specific substrate so they can fit together to form an ESC

Q

Mechanism of how enzyme works

A

works under optimum temperature and pH
products leave active site unchanged

Q

Why enzymes have a specific shape of active site/functions

A

Enzymes are specific in their function because they have specific active site, which is complementary to a specific substrate, where enzymes are proteins with specific sequence of amino acids, which curl up to give a specific shape of active site

Q

Explain the effect of temperature on the rate of enzyme activity

A

As temperature increases, molecules gain K.E, frequency of collisions increase, so more successful collisions, so more ESC
Optimum temperature showing maximum rate of enzyme activity, showing maximum number of ESCs
Above optimum, the enzyme is denatured, active site lost its shape, no longer complementary to substrate, no more ESC
