What is the granum

What do chlorophyl do?
they capture light (protons from the light)
How else can light be captured other than chlorophyll
by accessory pigments that then transfer to chlorophyll by resonance energy transfer (carotene)
What does the energy from photons generate
NADPH and protein gradient
Where are protons concentrated
In the thylacoid lumen (from the stroma)
What does the proton gradient generate
think mitochondria
ATP (which also gives off oxygen)
What is the dark reaction in plants similar to
the Calvin cycle
In the dark reaction, what does NADPH and ATP do
They are used to convert CO2 into sucrose
Where does the Calvin cycle take place
in the stroma
and uses the protein RUBISCO
like the sugary snack brand
What C3 plants normal or are the strange cousin plants that no one really likes
they are “normal” plants that do photosynthesis normally
What are C4 plants
the strange cou…. i mean “tropical” plants that have an extra step to increase the concentration of CO2 via mesophyll cells and bundle sheath cells
Where do choloroplasts come from?
They are similar to mitochondria and cannot be made de novo
How do proteins get into the chloroplast
Again, like mitochondria; they can be synthesized there or be imported in by Tim/Toc border patrol proteins (make sure you have a green card when going in)
