3rd unit (fourth notes) Flashcards
(21 cards)
What are the functions of the frontal lobe?
voluntary movements, complex information processing, decision making as well as personality
What are the functions of the parietal lobe?
Sensory perception/integration like (taste, touch, hearing, vision, smell) ANOTHER WAY OF SAYING THE FUNCTIONS IS: “interpreting bodily sensations”
What are the functions of the occipital lobe?
Visual perceptions/processing, like color, facial recognition, objects, and memory formation
What are the functions of the temporal lobe?
Autory functions, like storing memory
What are the functions of the motor cortex?
Basic body movements
What are the functions of the somatosensory cortex?
Detecting sensory info
What are the functions of the primary visual cortex?
To receive and integrate visual information
What are the functions of the primary auditory cortex?
Makes sense of information that is first processed, focusing on hearing sounds through ears
What are the functions of the wernicke’s area?
Understanding and processing language
What are the functions of the broca’s area?
controls our speech functions for us to speak.
What are the functions of the hypothalamus?
Regulates our thirst, hunger, body temperature
What is homeostasis?
Helps body achieve balance like for ex: if cold we get up to turn on heater
What are the functions of the thamalus?
Relay center to cerebral cortex its functions is sensory info for interpretation
What are the functions of the hippocampus?
Memory functions, and learning functions.
What are the functions of the amygalda?
Survival emotional response (Fight=-flight-freeze)
What are the functions of the pons?
Regulates sleep, also acts as a relay station for sensory info and movement
What are the functions of the medulla?
Regulate heartbeat, breathing, blood pressure, and controls the involuntary body process’s, and breathing.
What are the functions of the reticular formation?
pain sensation, alertness, fatigue, sleep and motivation
What are the functions of the pituitary gland?
Produces and releases hormones for growth and carries out bodily functions
What are the functions of the corpus callosum?
It lets information to transmit from one side of the brain to the other
What are the functions of the association area’s?
Integrate info from different receptors or sensory areas and it relate the info to past expierences
