6. Lecture 12 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is augmented feedback?
2 types?
Augmented feedback is information about performance that comes from an outside source
Knowledge of results (KR)- information about the outcome
Knowledge of performance (KP)- information about the production of the movement pattern
What are the 3 purposes of augmented feedback?
- Provides information for error identification and correction- directs attention to the most important information
- Acts as a form of reinforcement- strengthens correct responses
- Serves to motivate the learner- provides information about progress
What are the 2 things to keep in mind when using augmented feedback for someone?
- Precision of feedback- feedback can be either too precise or too general
- Content of feedback
Feedback can contain info about errors and/or correct performance
Feedback can be qualitative or quantitative - Forms of feedback
What are the 4 forms of feedback?
- Verbal
Prescriptive vernal KP identifies the error and tells the learner what to do to correct it
Descriptive verbal KP describes the error made - Kinematic (velocity/acceleration) and kinetic (force production) visual displays
- Video
- Augmented sensory feedback (biofeedback/heart rate
Which type of knowledge of performance is more effective early in the learning process:
Prescriptive verbal KP
Descriptive verbal KP
Prescriptive verbal KP
What is faded feedback?
Benefit?
Feedback that slowly fades out with increase in degree of skill
Benefit: the coach can tailor feedback to respect individual differences
Slide 13 lecture 12
How can feedback be a negative more than positive?
What are the 3 types of feedback that minimize dependency?
Occasional feedback tends to enhance learning
Providing feedback continuously over a long period of time can lead to a dependency on that feedback
Types that minimize dependency:
Faded feedback
Bandwidth feedback
Summary feedback
As a coach trying to help your athletes learn how to shoot a free throw, develop a practice session that includes faded, bandwidth, and summary feedback
What is bandwidth feedback?
Benefits?
Slide 14 lecture 12
Benefits:
Eventually faded feedback occurs
Lack of feedback=positive reinforcement
Movement consistently develops because the learner is not encouraged to change movement on each trial
What is summary feedback?
Benefits?
Slide 15 lecture 12
Benefits:
Generates consistency
Avoids overloading the learner
In what stage of the learning process is which feedback needed the most?
Cognitive stage- feedback is vital
Associative stage- faded, bandwidth, or summary feedback
Autonomous stage- feedback can be withdrawn
