  • Trotsky was a strict Marxist
    • Stalin accepted socialism in one country at a time
  • – Stalin means steel
  • – Held the job of secretary, not a glamorous job but had a lot of contacts & people owed him favors
  • – by 1928 Stalin had beaten Trotsky and exiled him built a state on fear, a police state, dictatorship
