Cells Flashcards

1
Q

Name two things organisms can be and describe them

A
  • Prokaryotes - they are smaller and simpler e.g. bacteria - is a single-celled organism - prokaryotic cell
  • Eukaryotes - they are complex and include all animal and plant cells - they are organisms made up of eukaryotic cells

Q

Name and describe the different parts of an animal cell

A

Nucleus - genetic material - controls activity of the cell
Mitochondria - most aerobic respiration - respiration transfers the energy cells need to work
Cytoplasm - most chemical reactions - contains enzymes that control the chemical reactions
Cell membrane - holds cell together - controls what goes in and out
Ribosomes - proteins are made

Q

Name and describe the different parts of a plant cell

A

Nucleus - genetic material - controls activity of the cell
Mitochondria - most aerobic respiration - respiration transfers the energy cells need to work
Cytoplasm - most chemical reactions - contains enzymes that control the chemical reactions
Cell membrane - holds cell together - controls what goes in and out
Ribosomes - proteins are made
Cell wall - rigid - made of cellulose - supports and strengthens cell wall
Permanent vacuole - contains cell sap - weak solution of sugar and salts
Chloroplasts - photosynthesis - makes food for plant - contain chlorophyll which absorbs light for photosynthesis
