2
Q

how can you estimate the rate of transpiration and why

A

measuring the uptake of water by a plant

you can assume that water uptake is related to water loss

Q

describe how you can estimate the rate of transpiration

A

set up apparatus then record the starting position of the air buble
start a stopwatch and record the distance moved per unit time
keep the conditions constant

Q

how are guard cell adapted to open and close stomata

A

kidney shape - opens and closes the stomata in a leaf
lots of water - guard cell fills with it to make the stomata open for photosynthesis
short of water - guard cells lose water to make stomata close for photosynthesis
more stomata on the underside
adapted for gas exchange and controlling water loss
