Amyloidosis types Flashcards
Amyloidosis
excessive protein deposited in tissues –> beta pleated sheets
tissue becomes bulky, interferes w/ function
Cardiac: thickening of heart muscle and CHF
-interrupt conduction –> arrhythmias
Renal: nephrotic syndrome, renal failure
Blood vessels: stroke, heart attack
Immunologic amyloidosis
Ig light chains –> AL fibril
Secondary amyloidosis (chronic inflammation)
SAA - serum amyloid associated protein
-acute phase reactant
–> AA fibril
DMII amyloidosis
pancreas makes amylin and insulin, insulin resistant state –> build up of amylin protein
–> AIAPP fibril
Medullary thyroid carcinoma amyloidosis
calcitonin –> A-CAL fibril
Alzheimer amyloidosis
b-amyloid protein –> APP fibril
Dialysis associated amyloidosis
b2-microglobin –> Ab2M fibril
Stain used to diagnosis amyloidosis
congo red stain
amyloid protein green under polarized light
-“apple green birefringent”
