how to diagnose

A

amylase may be normal

CT may show calcification, dilated duct

how is it treated

A
stop alcohol consumption
opioids, NSAIDs for pain 
address diabetes (endocrine)
enzyme supplements eg CREON (exocrine)
surgery if intolerable (join duodenum/jejunum to pancreas so pancreatic juice can drain)
