Project level role purpose
These roles are the directors, managers and coordinators of work. They are part of a board or steering committee and have the authority to direct the project and have governance over the project.
Solution development team roles
These roles are the “engine room” of the project - they shape and build the solution and have collective responsibility for it’s day-to-day development and fitness for business purpose. There may be one or more of these teams within a project.
The supporting roles
These roles provide assistance and guidance to the project on an adventure hoc basis throughout the lifecycle.
Business sponsor
Most senior project-level business role. The project champion committed to the project, the proposed solution and to developing it.
Responsible for the business case and project budget.

Business visionary
Senior level project business role held by ONE person to stop confusion. More active involvement - interprets needs of business sponsor, communicates them to the team and ensures they are properly represented in the business case.
Remains involved throughout the project and provides strategic direction and ensures the solution will actually give you the business case.
Technical coordinator
Prime technical authority ensures the project is technically coherent and meets the desired standards.
Project manager
Manages the working environment at a high level - coordinates all aspects of management but leaves more detailed planning and delivery to the SDT.
Takes responsibility of the project throughout it’s duration.
Business analyst
Both supports project level roles and is integrated in the SDT. Facilitates between business and technical roles, ensuring accurate and appropriate decisions.
Makes sure business needs understood by SDT and facilitates communication between them.
Team leader
Acts as the “servant leader” for the SDT and ensures functions as a whole and meets its objectives. Works with the team to plan and coordinate aspects of product delivery at a detailed level.
Leadership rather than management - most likely will do another SDT role as well.
Business ambassador
In the SDT team, represents the business. Significant input into creating and prioritising foundations, and then provides the day to day detail of these requirements during the time boxed developments.
Makes business decisions during the evolutionary development phase.
Solution developer
Solution developer collaborates with other SDT roles to interpret business requirements and translate them into solution increments that meet functional and non-functional needs of the business
Solution tester
Tests throughout the project in accordance with the agreed strategy
Business advisor
In support team, specific input in solution development or testing - a business subject matter expert
Technical advisor
Supports team by providing specific/specialist technical input into the project - often with operational or maintenance perspective
Workshop facilitator
Support team to plan, organise and facilitate workshops to ensure the group collaborates to meet a predetermined objective within a compressed timeframe (ideally independent from outcome)
DSDM coach
Stupid.
