An Officer involved in a shooting death shall be immediately reassigned until the results of the coroner's inquest, district attorney's and departmental investigation are obtained, or until the division commander directs otherwise. if no death occurred, the Commander may reassign the Officer if a person was injured or if its is of a sensitive nature.
While making an enforcement stop, what is the proper distance between vehicles?
A minimum distance of 10 feet.
When may an Officer speed and/or use a siren during an escort?
When escorting for the preservation of life or expediting military movements during a national emergency.
Should amber warning lights be left on during traffic stops?
No, they should be turned off as long as the vehicles are off the roadway and no harm exists.
What type of patrol vehicle should be used during a pursuit?
A black and white patrol car should take over a pursuit from an unmarked car, SMPV, or M/C.
A vehicle with overheads should take over the pursuit from a slick top.
A marked black and white or SMPV should take over for an M/C unless the M/C is the safest means.
If a pursuit is taken over by another area/agency, should anyone follow the pursuit to the termination?
The initiating Officer and the participating supervisor should proceed to the termination (at legal speeds) IF within reasonable distance.
