11
Q

What is the function of the trim air system?

A

Hot air is removed from the bleed lines upstream of the packs, and is blended back in later on to fine tune the zone temperatures. The packs attempt to output temperature to meet the requirements of the zone with the coldest setting.

If the trim air system fails, the packs attempt to maintain temperature at an average value.

14
Q

Describe the function of the gasper system

A

Draws air from the forward overhead air conditioning ducts and distributes it to the passenger gaspers.

No flight deck controls on the 757, one switch on the 767 to control a gasper fan

15
Q

Describe the purpose of the recirculation fans

A

Maintain cabin circulation while allowing a reduction in cabin ventilation, allowing the packs to operated at a reduced flow

Recirc fans can be turned off to improve ventilation, but the L fan on the 757 should never be turned off because of its equipment cooling function

17
Q

What is the function of the cabin altitude Auto Rate knob? What does the index mark indicate?

A

Functions only in AUTO 1 or AUTO 2 mode, and sets the limit for cabin climb and descent rate.

The index mark indicates about a 500fpm climb and 300fpm descent, and is the proper preflight position

18
Q

What is the location and function of the Bulk Cargo Heat selector, and what is its preflight position?

A

On the P-61 accessory panel

NORM - standard heating range, VENT - higher range, and activates ventilating fan

Preflight position is VENT

19
Q

What is the function of the Equip Cooling selector?

A

AUTO - control of the equipment cooling is automatic

STBY - positions the equipment cooling system for inboard air flow

OVRD - positions the equipment cooling system for reverse air flow, shuts down the Nitrogen Generation System (if installed) and arms the NO COOLING light

Only installed on 767

20
Q

What is the meaning of an illuminated NO COOLING light?

A

No reverse airflow through the Equipment Cooling System

21
Q

What is the meaning of an Equipment Cooling OVHT light (767)?

A

High temperature or low airflow in the equipment cooling system

22
Q

What is the meaning of a PACK OFF light?

A

The pack valve is closed, and the pack is off

23
Q

What is the meaning of a Pack INOP light?

A

A pack outlet overheat has been detected, or a control system fault has been detected

[“PACK TEMP” EICAS adv]

24
Q

What are the functions of the Pack Control selectors?

A

OFF - closes pack valve

AUTO - automatic control of the pack

STBY - bypasses automatic control and sets the pack to predefined constant levels: N is normal, C is full cold, W is full warm

25
What is the meaning of a Gasper OFF light?
The Gasper switch is on but the fan is not operating. Ain’t nothing you can do, that’s Chinatown
26
What is the meaning of an illuminated Recirc Fan INOP light?
The recirculation fan has failed or not operating, or the switch is OFF
27
What is the meaning of an illuminated Equipment Cooling OVHT light (757)?
Insufficient airflow during ground operations, the supply fan is inoperative, or the alternate supply fan is inoperative
28
What is the meaning of a CABIN ALTITUDE light and CABIN ALT discrete light?
The cabin altitude has exceeded 10,000 feet, the light will extinguish when the cabin altitude goes below 8,500 feet
29
Why is the center ISLN switch guarded on the 767?
To protect the air source to the ADP
30
What is the meaning of a DUCT LEAK light?
A high temperature bleed air leak is detected
31
How many duct leak detection zones are there?
Two on the 757, three on the 767
32
What is the meaning of an illuminated Engine BLEED light?
A “bleed air malfunction” 757: bleed air temperature is excessive 767: the high pressure bleed valves and/or PRSOVs are open when they should be closed
33
What is the meaning of an Engine HI STAGE or OVHT light?
A “bleed air malfunction” 757: the system bleed pressure is high, or the high pressure bleed valve has automatically locked closed 767: the bleed air temperature is too high, or the engine bleed valves have automatically closed
34
What is the difference between the 757’s Bleed Air HI STAGE light and the 767’s Bleed Air OVHT light?
757’s indicates high pressure and closes the HP valve on the respective side 767’s indicates high temperature and closes both the HP and Bleed Air valves on the respective side
35
How many motors does the outflow valve have, and how are they powered?
Three motors. Two are AC (AUTO 1 and AUTO 2), and one is DC (manual control)
36
What happens to the cabin rate if the max differential pressure is reached but the aircraft is still climbing?
Cabin rate becomes equal to aircraft climb rate
37
At what cabin altitude is the outflow valve automatically closed?
11,000 feet if in automatic mode only (will also function in manual mode in some 757s)
38
Where are the positive and negative relief vent valves?
Positive relief: aft left on 757, fwd left on 767 Negative relief: forward right on 757, in cargo doors on 767 plus one fwd of the positive relief valves
39
How can you force a pack to operate at high flow rate?
Turn off the other pack, or turn off the corresponding recirc fan (but do not turn off the L recirc fan in the 757)
40
Why should the L recirc fan not been turned off in the 757?
It causes the overboard exhaust valve to open, which requires maintenance action to reset
41
What effect does pushing the Fwd or Aft Cargo Fire ARMED switch have on the recirc fans?
Fwd: both fans turn off Aft: only the right fan turns off
42
What is the meaning of an Equip Cooling VALVE light?
The equipment cooling valves are not in their commanded positions
