31
Q

What is the function of the Diesel Engine Drip Headers?

A

The drip headers, one on each side of the diesel engine, collect unburned fuel leakage from within the engine. The unburned fuel is removed from the drip headers and returned to the day tank via an ejector driven by the pressurized fuel oil return from the bypass headers.

33
Q

What is the flow path of the Diesel Generator Engine Fuel Oil System during normal operation?

A
  1. Fuel oil from the Fuel Oil Day Tank is supplied to the D/G supply headers via the Engine Driven Fuel Oil Pump.
  2. Each cylinder has a fuel injection pump supplied from the supply header.
  3. Fuel injection pumps provide fuel oil to the cylinders at a rate determined by the governor.
  4. The fuel oil that is not used will drain into one of two drip headers and be sent back to the day tank.
  5. The Fuel Oil Day Tank level is controlled automatically by the Fuel Oil Day Tank Fill Valve.

A
  1. The Fuel Oil Storage Tanks are filled from a tanker truck.
  2. Prior to bringing the tanker truck into the Protected Area it will be sampled and tested to ensure it meets acceptance criteria.
  3. Chemicals are added to the as required prior to filling.
  4. To maintain operability of the D/G the tank being filled will be isolated from the D/G.
  5. When filling a tank the Fuel Oil Fill Line Filter is used to prevent unwanted material from entering the tank.
35
Q

What is the flow path of the Diesel Generator Engine Fuel Oil System during Storage Tank Recirculation?

A
  1. Do not recirculate the tank that is aligned to its associated diesel.
  2. Align the Recirculation Pump by opening the suction valve from the storage tank and the recirc inlet valve to the storage tank.
  3. Operate the Recirculation Pump from the skid in the yard.
  4. Initially the fuel oil is recirculated without the pre-filter and post-filter in service to allow for Chemistry Tech Spec sampling.
  5. Following 4 hours of recirculation Chemistry can obtain a sample.
  6. After Chemistry sampling the pre-filter and post-filter are placed in service.
  7. Normally, the storage tanks are recirculated for 24 hours.
36
Q

What is the precaution associated with high tank level an performing recirculation?
