Q

What is the purpose of the Jacket Water Keep Warm Pump?

A

The Jacket Water Keep Warm Pump runs when the D/G is shutdown in “AUTO” or runs continuously in “RUN” to:
A. Removes residual heat on initial D/G shutdown
B. Provides approximately 50gpm recirculation flow to maintain the engine in a warmed condition while shutdown to reduce thermal stresses during D/G starts.

16
Q

What is the affect on the Keep Warm Pump and Heaters if the Control Switch is placed in AUTO?

A

AUTO - The Jacket Water Keep Warm Pump only runs when the D/G is NOT running. The Jacket Water Heaters cycle on and off based on temperature, but ONLY when the Keep Warm Pump is running.

17
Q

What is the affect on the Keep Warm Pump and Heaters if the Control Switch is placed in RUN?

A

The Jacket Water Keep Warm Pump will run continuously and the Jacket Water Heaters cycle based on temperature.

18
Q

How are the Keep Warm Heaters affected by a D/G start signal from the Sequencer?

A

The Heaters are automatically de-energized.

19
Q

What is provided shutoff the Keep Warm Heaters if they should fail to turn off in the normal range?

A

A temperature switch is installed to provide over-temperature protection should the heaters fail to turn off in the normal range.

20
Q

What Jacket Water pressure will cause a low pressure alarm?

A

10psig

21
Q

What Jacket Water temperature will cause a D/G trip?

A

200F

22
Q

When is the High Jacket Water Temperature trip active?

A

Only during a manual start, during an automatic start the trip is bypassed.

23
Q

Is the Jacket Water High Temperature Trip instantaneous?

A

No, the trip is disabled for the first 60 seconds of D/G operation.

24
Q

What is the Diesel Generator Engine Jacket Cooling Water flow path with the D/G in standby?

A
  1. The Keep Warm Pump pumps water from the Jacket Water Standpipe, bypassing the Jacket Water Cooler and Thermostatic Control Valve, to the engine cylinder jackets.
  2. The water leaves the diesel engine cylinder jackets and returns to the standpipe.
  3. The water is heated in the standpipe by the Jacket Water Heaters to maintain temperature approximately 145F.
25
Q

What is the Diesel Generator Engine Jacket Cooling Water flow path with the D/G in operation?

A
  1. The Engine Driven Jacket Water Pump takes water from the Jacket Water Standpipe and deliver it through the Thermostatic Control Valve to the Jacket Water Cooler.
  2. The Thermostatic Control Valve directs flow through the Jacket Water Cooler to maintain system temperature approximately 165F.
  3. Before entering the D/G the jacket water will remove some heat from the engine lube oil and combustion air intake and engine aftercoolers.
  4. Additionally, a small amount of jacket water bypasses the D/G cylinder jackets after leaving the right bank after cooler to cool the D/G governor lube oil.
  5. The heated cooling water leaves the engine cylinder jackets and returns to the standpipe.
  6. Nuclear Service Water(RN) circulates through the tube side of the Jacket Water Cooler to act as the system’s heat sink.
26
Q

What is the normal operating range for the Jacket Water Standpipe?

A

178-205”

27
Q

What level in the Jacket Water Standpipe will cause a low level alarm?

A

176”

28
Q

How many gallons per inch are there in the Jacket Water Standpipe?

A

1 inch = 3 gallons

29
Q

Who must be contacted when adding makeup water to the Jacket Water Standpipe?

A

Chemistry must be notified when making up to the standpipe in order to sample jacket water and add chemicals as necessary.

30
Q

Who owns draining to lower level in the Jacket Water Standpipe if necessary?

A

Chemistry will drain the standpipe to the D/G Room Sump if Jacket Water Standpipe level needs to be lowered.

31
Q

How long can the D/G operate if Nuclear Service Water(RN) cooling is lost?

A
  1. Fully loaded - approximately 3.4 minutes

2. Unloaded - approximately 15 minutes
