Q

When can UNCONTROLLED instrumentation be used in safety related tests?

A

Uncontrolled instruments may be used for safety related tests when the procedure doesn’t ask for calibration data

9
Q

How is RESTRICTED instrumentation identified?

A

Restricted instrumentation identified with Yellow restricted stickers with calibration date and restricted range
If info will not fit on the sticker, then I&E keeps a data sheet

Q

What is the definition of REJECTED instrumentation?

A

Rejected instrumentation is test instrumentation that is out of its normal calibration interval, cannot meet manufacturer’s calibration specs, or is suspected to be damaged or out of tolerance.

16
Q

Who checks test equipment out?

A
  1. Site Services during daylight hours

2. Nights or weekends requires the individual to check it out

17
Q

What is required if test equipment is used without checking it out?

A

A NCR must be written to document this occurrence

18
Q

What are the responsibilities for an individual checking out test equipment?

A
  1. Have a valid need for the equipment
  2. Must understand the limitations and restrictions associated with the equipment
  3. Have the knowledge and training to use the equipment safely and for its intended purpose
19
Q

What shall the individual know when selecting test equipment and plant tools?

A
  1. The expected values of the parameters being monitored to pick an instrument with the right range
  2. The type of fluid being tested and what the test instrument is and is not designated for
  3. Ensure fittings and tubing being used is of sufficient design for the expected temperature and pressure
  4. The PT being performed will specify an instrument type and range or equivalent considering range and accuracy requirements for safety related or control designated components
20
Q

How is the appropriate test equipment chosen in regards to instrument range?

A
  1. The instrument range should not exceed three times the nominal expected test value
  2. Ideally, the expected test value should fall within 1/2 to 2/3 of the instrument range
21
Q

When are snubbers used with test equipment?

A

A snubber is required if the measured pressure fluctuates exceedingly

22
Q

What guidelines are adhered to when routing cables for test equipment?

A
  1. Must no create a trip hazard
    A. Route in the overhead
    B. Use housekeeping tag to prevent trip hazard
    C. Tape down the cable
  2. If running a cable through a fire door, the door must be impaired first
  3. Ensure cable is secured well at destination location
23
Q

Who must be notified when removing, and returning, instruments to service?

A

The Control Room Supervisor if indication will be affected

24
Q

What are some basic steps for test equipment setup?

A
  1. If large fluctuations are expected a snubber can be used
  2. Zero equipment
  3. Ensure power supply is adequate
  4. Check cables for continuity
  5. If a bad cable is found replace it
  6. If indication is stuck the replace it
  7. If indication is near the bottom of scale, and this is the expected indication, install a new piece of equipment with a smaller range
