Dogs that underwent pneumonectomy had higher post-op PaO2 and lower A-a gradient compared to dogs that underwent single lung lobectomy - dogs undergoing pneumonectomy may have already begun to institute compensatory mechanisms for reduced pulmonary function, explaining the superior function of existing pulmonary parenchyma; in addition, the contralateral lung lobes may be able to expand to a greater degree after pneumonectomy compared to single lobectomy
  3. No survival benefit of left vs right pneumonectomy
