3
Q

alteration in permeability of glomerulus causes what

A

more or less components filtered out of blood and into urine (fluids, electrolytes, proteins, glucose, etc.)

Q

5 categories of glomerular disease

A

1) acute nephritic syndromes
2) nephrotic syndromes
3) asymptomatic proteinuria & hematuria
4) acute glomerulonephritis

6
Q

acute nephritic syndromes

A
  • Dec glomerular permb (inc GFR) –> retain fluids (water & electrolytes) & nitrogenous wastes
  • Very serious cmplx (azotemia, HTN, edema)

7
Q

nephrotic syndromes

A
  • Inc glomerular permb (inc GFR) –> lose components in urine that should not be excreted
  • Proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia
  • Hyperlipidemia

8
Q

why does hyperlipidemia occur in nephrotic syndromes (2)

A

r/t liver responding to hypoalbuminemia by producing more proteins & LDLs –> lipiduria

9
Q

asymptomatic proteinuria & hematuria

A
  • Asympt in terms of obvious renal damage –> no impairment of kidney Fx (normal GFR)
  • Less proteinuria than nephrotic syndromes (less severe)
