An anxiety disorder characterized by reliving a severely upsetting event in unwanted, recurring memories and dreams

ex.) September 11th, 2001 attacks lead to PTSD
- Children experiencing or witnessing trauma
- Women are more likely to develop PTSD

Hypochondriasis/Illness Anxiety Disorder

A

Fear of illness. Preoccupation with the fear of having or the belief of having a serious illness or disease. (Going to the strong belief instantly)
- Physical sensations are misinterpreted
- Headache must be a brain tumor
- Rash must be skin cancer

Conversion Disorder

A

Involves real physical problems but the cause is psychological. The physical symptoms can’t be controlled by the person.
- Symptoms can include seizures, weakness or paralysis

  • Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day
  • Little interest or pleasure in almost all activities
  • Significant changes in weight or appetite
  • Sleeping more or less than usual
  • Agitated or decreased level of activity
  • Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt
  • Diminished ability to think or concentrate
  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide

Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymic Disorder)

A
  • A continuous, long-term form of depression. Feelings of being sad and empty, lost of interest in daily activities and have trouble getting things done. May also have low self-esteem, feel like a failure and feel hopeless.
  • These feelings last for years and may interfere with your relationships, school, work and daily activities
