What are internal forms of social control?
Control over our behaviour comes within ourselves and personalities

What is moral conscience or superego?
‘the morality principle’ from freud psychodynamic theory.
Makes us feel guilty, preventing further bad behaviour.
developed through socialisation- right from wrong
What is tradition and culture?
The internalisation of norms, values and morals.
Learnt through socialisation into routines by family.
Religion- moral code, punishment, people and a purpose.
What is Rational Ideology?
It is acting according to socialisation, rational thinking behind good behaviour.
What are external forms of social control?
Society aim to conform to its expectations and to keep to its rules.
What are the 2 forms of external controls?
- Coercion
- Fear
What is Coercion?
The use of threat of force to make someone do something.
Can be physical or psychological.
How is fear an external form of social control?
An offender is in fear of losing freedom, opportunities, family bonds= Social bond Theory
An offender is in fear of punishment= Deterrence.
Individual deterrence and general deterrence.
