What are the working practices within relations to the police?
Specialist units- bomb squad, counter terrorism, CEOP.

Role of Charity and pressure groups?
Support for a cause or specific topic.
Charity will raise money
Pressure groups will apply pressure upon government to make legislative changes.
What is an example of a charity or pressure group and what do they do?
-NACRO (National Association for the care and resettlement of offenders):
•Provide 2nd chances in education, housing, employment, addiction help.
•Show support for people affected by their offending.
•Funded by donations/fundraisers but also through government grants.
-Campaign -> ‘end friday releases’ (offenders day of release).
- Women in prison- aim to help women affected by prison= an inmate or by the system.

Who funds the CPS?
Government
Recovers assets from confiscated goods from criminals.
Aims of the CPS?
-Advises Police in their investigations about lines of enquiry
and evidence.
- Assesses evidence submitted by the police.
- Decided whether to prosecute and what charge should be brought.
- Prepares prosecution case and presents it in court.
- Assists, informs, and supports victims and prosecutes witnesses.

What are the working practices of the CPS?
It’s the national body throughout England and Wales, 14 regional area teams prosecuting local cases.
Types of criminality - full range of offences and takes responsibility for all serious cases.
Decisions to prosecute- Evidential Test (Enough evidence for conviction?) and Public Interest Test (Public interest to prosecute?) If there isn’t enough evidence they perform the Threshold Test.
Aims of the judiciary?
To interpret and apply the law to the cases in court.
Crown courts- The judge must manage the trial, to ensure fairness, explain legal issues and procedures to members of the jury and passing evidence if the defendant is found guilty.
Appeal courts- judges make rulings on the appeals from lower courts,
Philosophy of the judiciary?
- Judicial Independence- free from government interference
- Impartiality- not taking sides
- Integrity: honesty and acting morally
- Prophecy: upholding society’s standards.
