How effective are prisons?
+ Takes offender away from society so protects society.
- Danger within prisons= drugs, assault (staff vs inmates)
- Reoffending- leads to overcrowding-hygiene problems- health concerns and rioting
- Staff levels decreasing
Effectiveness of the police?
+ Do investigate crime
+ Evidence proves that the police are active in their role
- Budget/ staff cuts - higher workload and stress.
- Target setting- dropped cases, unrecorded crime
- Institutional racism- McPherson report (Stephen Lawrence)
Effectiveness of Charities and Pressure Groups?
-Platform to enact change-> arranged in methods such as social media, website, leaflets
- Commitment to enact action -> knowledgable or have expertise in a topic
Effectiveness of probation service?
Budget- came from gov. drop and community, CRC’s 19/21 failed to meet targets and did telephone consultations so offender could lie.
Staff Cuts- premises were not fit for purpose as it was falling apart.
