Q

What is the hypothesis ?

A

An idea that can be verified/disproven by an investigation
What the researcher thinks the result is likely to be.

Q

What is a directional hypothesis

A

Predicts the direction of the relationship or difference (e.g., positive, negative, increase, decrease, higher, lower).

One-Tailed: Refers to the fact that the test only looks at the results in one specific direction.

Precise: Specifies the expected outcome with more detail than a non-directional hypothesis.

Q

What is a non-directional hypothesis ?

A

Predicts a difference: It suggests that a relationship or association exists between variables.

Does not specify direction: It doesn’t predict whether one variable will be higher or lower. Not predict relationship between variables

Uses broad terms: It often uses words like “effect,” “change,” or “difference”.

Used when there is no prior knowledge: It’s commonly used when there’s no existing research to suggest a specific direction of the relationship (Two tailed)

Q

What is a null-hypothesis ?

A

There is no relationships between the variables being studied.

The treatment being studied has no effect on the outcome.

No difference between groups

Q

What is falsifiability ?

A

For a theory to be considered scientific it must be able to be tested and proven as true/false

Make sure the theories are constantly being tested for proper understanding.
