How to do the sign test Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is it for ?
Test the statistical significance of differences between related pairs
How do you know if the Observed value (S) are statistically significant ?
If the observed value (S) = equal/less than the critical value (cv)
Step 1
Add up the number of positives/negatives ignore any 0
Step 2
Add up the number of times the less frequent sign occurs
Step 3
N= the number of participants (ignore any that were 0)
Step 4
Determine whether it is one tailed or two tailed
One tailed = Directional
Two tailed = Non directional
Null hypothesis = ppts that are 0
Step 5
Use the critical value table
Step 6
Observed value must be lower than the critical value for the result to be significant.
