Types of Validity Flashcards
(4 cards)
Concurrent validity
If a tests results correlate (similar) to the results of a test similar to it.
If came up with new way to test intelligence levels.
If ppts scored highly on yours and a standardised IQ test.
Results - Correlate with a known accurate test.
Face validity
The study appears to measure what it is supposed to at face value (first appearance)
Saying you are testing intelligence and then asking them when their birthday is would not be valid as it is not measuring what it is supposed to.
Getting them to do an IQ test would have face-validity
Ecological validity
Extent to which studies findings apply in the real world.
Lab experiments have low ecological validity - ppts know they are taking part in the study. - may act different if not being observed.
Field experiment - higher ecological validity - More realistic environment more likely to apply outside of the study.
Temporal validity
The study stays true over time
If i studied attitudes in the 1920’s = low TV
Attitudes would have changed through time.
