Statistical testing/Inferential testing Flashcards
(9 cards)
Significant result
Where there is a low probability that chance factors were responsible for the variables tested
What do you do if the test is significant?
Reject the Null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis
What do you do if it is not significant?
Reject the alternative hypothesis and accept the Null hypothesis
Difference between type 1 and type 2 errors
Type 1 = When the Null hypothesis is rejected when it should’ve been accepted. (Test was not significant)
Type 2 = When the null hypothesis is accepted when it should have been rejected. (Test was significant)
What types of data is there in statistical testing
Nominal
Ordinal
Interval
What is Nominal data ?
Tallies of discrete categories
In the shop there was 8 apples 10 Cakes and 15 Burgers
What is ordinal data ?
Numbers are in an order
mood on a scale 1-10
What is Interval data ?
Standardised units of measurement
Height in Cm
Times in seconds
Weights in Kg
Inferential test table
Test of difference
Unrelated Related Test of correlation
Nominal Chi-squared Sign test Chi squared
Ordinal Mann Whitney Wilcoxon Spearman’s rho
Interval U t-test R t-test Pearson’s r
