Which kind of pancreatitis do cats get?
Chronic
Which enzymes interact at low pH in pancreatitis?
Trypsinogen and lysosomal enzymes
What is released in the pancreas which interacts with other enzymes and causes inflammation, oedema and haemorrhage and necrosis?
Trypsin
Pancreatitis signs in dogs?
Anorexia, vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhoea, dehydration
Pancreatitis signs in cats?
Inappetance, anorexia, listlessness, weight loss, dehydration
What % of pancreatitis does ultrasound show?
60%
CBC signs in dogs with pancreatitis?
Neutrophilia with left shift, anaemia, haemoconcentration from dehydration, thrombocytopaenia
CBC signs in cats with pancreatitis?
Mild anaemia or haemoconcentration
Biochemistry changes in dogs with pancreatitis?
Electrolyte changes from vomiting, azotaemia, high urine SG, raised liver enzymes, low albumin, low Ca, high cholesterol
Biochemistry changes in cats with pancreatitis?
Azotaemia, high urine SG, raised liver enzymes, increased bilirubin, low Ca
What are two pancreas-specific tests?
Amylase and lipase
In dogs, how much are amylase and lipase raised in pancreatitis?
4x
Why don’t amylase and lipase increase in cats?
Usually chronic
Why do you see amylase and lipase increase in renal disease?
Cleared by kidney
What is cut-off like for pancreatitis if also have renal disease?
Higher
How do steroids affect lipase and amylase?
Increase lipase, reduce amylase
How does phenobarb affect amylase and lipase?
Increases both
What other conditions increase both amylase and lipase?
Liver disease, tumours, amyloidosis, IBD
What is the only use for the presence of TAP in urine in pancreatitis?
Research
How long does the TAP urine test work for?
48 hours
What is TLI used to idnetify?
EPI, also a role in chronic pancreatitis
What is replacing TLI to diagnose pancreatitis in cats?
fPLI
What assay is currently used for dogs and cats?
DGGR lipase
What is the problem with the pancreatitis snap test?
Not quantitative
