What is Social Exchange Theory in the context of prosocial behavior?
Social Exchange Theory posits that people help others when the benefits outweigh the costs. Helping behavior is guided by a sort ofcost-benefit analysis—rewards may include praise, emotional satisfaction, or social approval, while costs could involve time, effort, or risk.This theory argues that most helping behavior is not purely altruistic.
How does Social Learning Theory explain the development of aggressive behavior?
According to Bandura’s Social Learning Theory (1977), aggression is learned by observing and imitating others. In his Bobo Doll experiment, children mimicked the aggressive behavior of adults, especially when they saw the adult being rewarded. This theory also explains how media exposure to violence can influence aggressive actions.
