Q

Automation Hands on Flight Controls and Throttles (AOM 2.8)/ (FOQA Event July 2020)

A

After takeoff and when below 2500 ft AGL (FOQA Event Newsletter) in order to monitor automation actions through tactile feedback, Inside FAF, the PF must hold the flight controls and throttle, unless other required action is necessary (e.g., selecting AFCS mode, setting auto-throttle SPD), in order to monitor the automations actions through tactile feedback.

During departure climb and approach the PF should keep their hand on the thrust levers when below 2500 ft AGL in order to actively monitor their movement should the autothrottle system enter “RETARD” mode and reduce to idle prematurely.

27
Circle to Land (AOM 2.21.18)
Do not exceed 30 degrees of bank. Conduct approach with autopilot engaged unless inoperative until descent is initiated below MDA. While circling, use HDG mode to control lateral path and maintain visual contact with the airport at all times.
28
