Define Arousal?
A physical and mental state pf alertness varying from deep sleep to intense excitement
What does the inverted U theory state?
As arousal increases so does performance up to an optimal point after this there is a performance drop
What level of arousal does fine movement skills need?
Lower levels of arousal
What level of arousal does gross movement skills need?
Higher levels of arousal
Give 4 ways in order to reduce arousal levels?
Mental Rehearsal
Visualisation
Deep Breathing
Positive Self-Talk
Define Mental Rehearsal and how is it used?
Involves mentally practicing a skill or movement before physically doing it. Can be done before a movement to increase confidence
How is Visualisation used?
Visualise yourself playing with a successful outcome
OR
Visualise yourself in a stress-free environment
Define Deep Breathing and how is it used?
Long deep breaths in order to decrease your heart rate
Define Positive Self-Talk and how is it used?
This is done by encouraging words said to yourself to build confidence
