Coping is the dynamic of changing cognitive and behavioural efforts to manage internal or external demands viewed as exceeding one’s resources - constantly changes perspective on either resources or demands
Problem focused or emotion focused approach
What are the differences between problem focused and emotion focused approaches to coping?
Problem focused is the effort to manage the problem itself that is causing anxiety
Emotion focused is regulating the emotional response to the stress
What are some coping strategies used by athletes?
Focus on the task

What are ways to specifically reduce somatic or cognitive anxiety?
Somatic - breathing control, progressive muscle relaxation
Cognitive - relaxation response, autogenic training

Exposing the body to stress in slightly increasing amounts to learn to cope
