DEFINITION: COLOUR

COLOUR (characteristics)
- A visual sensation
- Made up of 3 properties
- HUE
- INTENSITY
- VALUE

DEFINITION: LINE

LINE
- A CONTINUOUS mark made on a surface (A single dimension)
- Length AND direction
- Actual and/or implied

DEFINITION: TEXTURE

TEXTURE
- The surface quality of an object that can be actual or implied (Can either be felt or observed)
- EXAMPLES: smoothness, roughness, softness, etc.

DEFINITION: FORM

FORM can be either...
- A 3-Dimensional object
- an object that is 2-Dimensional in an artwork that APPEARS to be 3-Dimensional (Can be either depicted or physical)
- HEIGHT, WIDTH and DEPTH

DEFINITION: TONE

* Tonal values

TONE
- Another word for VALUE
- The quality of colour
- Adds emphasis to the artwork
- Defines the lightness or darkness of a colour

DEFINITION: SHAPE

SHAPE
- An enclosed 2-Dimensional area
- HEIGHT, LENGTH and BREADTH (width)
- Shapes can be either GEOMETRIC and/or ORGANIC

DEFINITION: SOUND

SOUND
- An audible material in art
- Made electronically or naturally
- Can be heard as noise, words or music that can also be recorded and reproduced

TIME
- Relates to the physical, emotional or psychological duration of an event or experience in art

LIGHT
- Describes the clarity of light rays that illuminate an object or installation

VALUE
- Defines the lightness or darkness of a specific colour
- WHITE: it is the lightest value
- BLACK: it is the darkest value
