Axial Skeleton Flashcards
(119 cards)
What is the Axial Skeleton
body axixs composed of the skull, thoracic cage and vertebral column.
Major bone of the forehead

Frontal Bone
superior ridge of the eyesocket

Supraorbital Margin
the ridge above the eyesocket indicating the location of the frontal sinus

supercilliary arch
people would look super silly without them
the smooth trianglular part of the frontal bone found midline directly above the nasal bones connecting the superciliary arches

Glabella
edward kisses bella on the glabella
cavity within the frontal bone

frontal sinus
Large paired bone located in the superior portion of the skull

Parietal Bone
runs laterally, joinig the frontal and parietal bones

Coranal Suture
runs where I would wear a crown
runs anteriopostiorally joining the two parietal bones

sagittal suture
paired bone located on the lateral sides of the skull

temporal bone
where your temple is
runs anteriopostiriorally jointing the temporal and parietal bones

squamous suture
articulates with the condylar process of the mandible

mandibular fassa
where the madible connects
articulation of the mandibular fossa and the condylar process of the mandible

temporomandibular joint
joins the temporal and the mandible
opening in the temporal bone extending to the inner ear

external auditory (acoustic) meatus
short canal in the petrous part of the temporal bone, extentding laterally towadrs the inner ear

internal auditory (acousitc) meatus
dense bony ridge on the interior surface of the temporal bone, location of the middle and inner ear cavities

Petrous Part
long sharp process of the temporal bone extending inferiorly

Styloid Process
it sticks up like a stylettoh heel
rounded process of the temporal bone posterior to the styloid process and extending inferiorly

Mastiod Process
it is the massive one
located between the styloid and mastoid processes; passageway for the facial nerve

stylomastoid foramen
the hole between styloid and the mastoid processes
located on petrous part of the temporal bone anterior to the jugular foramen

Carotid Canal
I drove my sylish massive car into the carotid canal
located on the inferior petrous part of the temporal bone posterior to the coratid canal

Jugular foramen
arch of bone extending anteriorly from the temporal bone

zygomatic process
paired bone which paticipates with the zygomatic process

zygomatic bone
arch of bone extending posteriorly from the zygomatic bone
