B 5.2 Interdependence Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is interdependence?
The way organisms rely on each other for food, shelter, pollination, seed dispersal, and other life processes.
What is a community in biology?
All the populations of different species living and interacting in a habitat.
What is an ecosystem?
A community of organisms and the non-living parts of their environment interacting together.
Give an example of interdependence in animals.
Bees pollinating flowers while feeding on nectar.
What could happen if one species is removed from a community?
It can affect the entire food web and cause other species to struggle or die out.
What are biotic factors?
Living factors in an environment, like predators, food, disease, and competition.
What are abiotic factors?
Non-living factors like temperature, light, water, and soil type.
What is a stable community?
One where the populations and environmental factors are balanced so that the community remains fairly constant over time.
What is a food web?
A network of interconnected food chains showing how energy and nutrients flow through a community.
Why is biodiversity important in a community?
It increases stability because different species can support each other and respond better to environmental changes.
