What is salmonella ?
- Symptoms ND the causes of them
- Way to prevent salmonella and effectiveness of it
Type of bacteria which causes food poisoning
- infected person suffer from fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea
- symptoms caused by toxins that the bacteria produces, you can get salmonella by eating food that has been contaminated with salmonella bacteria e.g. eating a chicken which caught the disease when alive or eating food that has been prepared in unhygienic conditions
- most poultry in UK is vaccinated against salmonella = control the spread of disease
What is gonorrhoea ?
- Symptoms ND the causes of them
- Way to prevent gonorrhoea and effectiveness of it
STD - passed on by sexual contact
- pain when they urinate and thick green yellow discharge from vagina or penis. Caused by bacteria
- Originally treated with penicillin (anti biotic ) but strains of bacteria have become resistant to it. To prevent the spread of gonorrhoea = treat with antibiotics and barrier methods of contraception like condoms
2 ways to prevent or reduce the spread of diseases
1) being hygienic like before preparing food which prevent the spread of diseases
2) destroying vectors - get rid of organisms that spread disease you can prevent the spread of diseases passing on. Vectors are insects which can be killed using insecticides or destroying their habitat where they no longer can breed

3) isolating infected individuals - with communicable disease then prevents them from passing it to anyone else
4) vaccination - vaccinating people or animals against communicable disease means they can’t develop the infection and pass it on to someone else
