Biological Approach Flashcards
(10 cards)
1
Q
What are the 3 types of neutrons?
A
Sensory / Relay and Motor Neurons
2
Q
Sensory Neuron
A
Carries impulses from the receptor to the CNS
3
Q
Relay Neuron
A
Carries nerve impulses within the CNS
4
Q
Motor Neuron
A
Various, tightly controlled, complex circuits throughout the body to allow both voluntary and involuntary movements, e.g. moving the hand.
5
Q
Genotype
A
Genetic makeup of an organism
6
Q
Phenotype
A
An observable trait
7
Q
Endocrine system
A
Regulates how much of each hormone is released into the blood.
8
Q
Positive Reinforcement
A
Providing a reward or positive consequence after a behaviour.
9
Q
Negative Reinforcement
A
Removing an unpleasant stimulus to increase chances of behaviour repeating.
10
Q
Assumptions of the Biological Approach?
A
- The approach believes us to be a consequence of our genetics and physiology.
- If we understand the brain and its function, we can explain our thoughts and behaviour
- To understand human behaviour, we must look to biological structures and processes within the body, e.g. genes, neurochemistry and nervous system.
