What/Who is the Study of Leading Questions
A
Loftus & Palmer (1974)
- 45 American Students (5 groups of 9)
- All watched video of a car crash and asked a specific question about how fast the 2 cars were going.
- Loftus & Palmer manipulated the verb for example ‘how fast were the 2 cars going when they smashed/collided/bumped/hit/contacted each other’’
- They found that the estimated speed was affected by the verb used, e.g. the participant were given the word Smashed = 40.5mph and Contacted = 31.8mph
