Blood Pressure Flashcards
(20 cards)
What is blood pressure
Blood speed
What 2 things determines blood pressure?
Pump and Pipes
How do you calculate blood pressure?
Cardiac output X peripheral resistance
BP= CO X PR
For the pump to be most effective what happens
Blood moves faster
What is stroke volume?
How much we pump each beat
Blood pressure can be influenced by 3 factors what are they?
Pre load
Contractility
After load
What is preload?
Enough fluid comes in so enough fluid comes out (supply and demand)
Refers to the amount of blood in the ventricles at the end of diastole (heart in relaxation phase) before contraction begins
What is contractility?
Refers to the intrinsic ability of the heart muscle (myocardium) to contract and pump blood.
Muscle has to punch hard enough.
Adrenaline helps make the heart punch harder.
What is after load?
Refers to the pressure or resistance the heart must overcome to eject blood during systole (ventricular contraction).
Pressure that the blood leaving the left ventricle to get into the aortas to overcome
Kidneys heavily rely on what?
Blood input
If kidneys do not produce enough blood what does it produce?
Renin
If liver does not receive enough blood pressure what does it produce?
Angiotensin 1
What does angiotensin 1 convert to in the lungs?
Angiotensin 2
What is angiotensin 1?
Its a protein in your blood, made by your kidney when it senses low blood pressure
Why is angiotensin 2 produced?
Angiotensin 1 gets changed into angiotensin 2, which raises your blood pressure by tightening blood vessels and telling your body to hold water.
Where does angiotensin 2 get converted?
In the lungs
What is ACE?
Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme
What is the function of ACE?
Its a key protein involved in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance
What would stop angiotensin?
ACE
