Blue 1-3 Flashcards
(31 cards)
What is the function of amniotic membrane? How is it preserved?
Promotes epithelialisation
Exhibits anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, antiangiogenic and antimicrobial properties
Can be used for treatment of persistent EDs, nonhealing corneal ulcers, chemical injury, conreal perforation, bullous keratopathy, LSCD, conj recon, dry eyes
Can be used for HSK to improve conreal epithelialisation and reduce ifnlammation
Preserved with cryopreservation, lyophilisation (freeze drying) and air drying
What is Parinaud’s Oculo glandular syndrome
Unilateral nodular or ulverative oncjunctivitis with regional lymphadenopathy
What casuses cat scratch disease?
Bartonella henselae
What is tularemia
Caused by Francisella tularensis - infection through rabbits, ticks, squirrels
Common cause of POGS.
Difference between PK and DALK outcomes
BCVA and uncorrected VA better with PK than DALK At 6 months
Refractive astigmatism and graft rejection less with DALK
No difference in sphericla equivalent and keratometric astigmatism
What does shingles vaccine contain? Who is it for
Live attenuated varicella zoster virus
For people older than 70 but less than 80
People who have had previous shingles to boost immunity
What is risk of shingles vaccine
May reactivate HZO infection such as keratitis
What reduces risk of corneal graft failure and rejection
ABO blood group matching of donor and receipient
How to treat persistent shiled ulcer in VKC
Remove conreal plaque to allow for corneal re-epitheliasation
(corneal scraping in clinic vs GA)
What is the function of Lifitegrast
Inhibits lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1
What is the function of ciclosporin
Inhibits calcineurin/nuclear factor of activated T cells
What is the most effective and cost effective treatment in primary angle closure glaucoma
Early clear lens extraction
What did AGIS (advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study) find?
Caucasian patients had better IOP control with primary trabeculectomy
Black patients with primary ALT
What did EMGS (early manifest glaucoma study) find
Age, optic disc haemorrhages, IOP, PXF and bialteral findings were risk factors for progression (not race)
What did the CNTGS (collaborative normal tension glaucoma study) find?
Almost 2/3 of patients did not progress even without treatment
What did OHTS ocular hypertension study fund
Age IOP, C:D ratio, low CCT were risk factors for progression but not disc haemorrhages or race
What is concern if BCVA poor after trabeculectomy?
Low IOP, chamber shallow
Overdrainage and conjunctival leak
Can be checked for with Siedel test - fluorescein 2%
What would blocked sclerostomy or retained viscoelastic cause?
Blocked sclerostomy would cause high IOP
Retained visco would cause deep AC with high IOP
What would topical pilocapring do during aqueous misdirection?
Further anterior displacement of the lens iris diaphragm
Worsening of aqueous misdirection
When does a wound leak in trab require repeat surgery
Profuse contant leak
Conjunctival retraction
Location of leak at the limbal edge
Slow flow leaks can be managed with contact lens
What does using long term ocular antihypertensives do to risk of leak following trab
Increase risk of conj wound leak due to reduced long term health of conj
What are side effects of acetazolamide
Hypokalaemia
Metabolic acidosis
Renal stones
Renal impairment
Hepatic impairment
Steven Johnson’s syndrome
SJS
Dizziness
Hypo/hyperglyacemia
CI in sulfa drug hypersesnsitvity
What glaucoam drop may cause impotenct?
Beta blocker
What are side effects of topical beta blocker
Bronchospasm, bradycardia, fatigue, peripheral coldness, sleep disturbanceW
