1
Q

What is the function of amniotic membrane? How is it preserved?

A

Promotes epithelialisation
Exhibits anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, antiangiogenic and antimicrobial properties

Can be used for treatment of persistent EDs, nonhealing corneal ulcers, chemical injury, conreal perforation, bullous keratopathy, LSCD, conj recon, dry eyes

Can be used for HSK to improve conreal epithelialisation and reduce ifnlammation

Preserved with cryopreservation, lyophilisation (freeze drying) and air drying

Q

Difference between PK and DALK outcomes

A

BCVA and uncorrected VA better with PK than DALK At 6 months

Refractive astigmatism and graft rejection less with DALK

No difference in sphericla equivalent and keratometric astigmatism

What does shingles vaccine contain? Who is it for

A

Live attenuated varicella zoster virus

For people older than 70 but less than 80
People who have had previous shingles to boost immunity

Q

How to treat persistent shiled ulcer in VKC

A

Remove conreal plaque to allow for corneal re-epitheliasation

(corneal scraping in clinic vs GA)

Q

What did EMGS (early manifest glaucoma study) find

A

Age, optic disc haemorrhages, IOP, PXF and bialteral findings were risk factors for progression (not race)

15
Q

What did OHTS ocular hypertension study fund

A

Age IOP, C:D ratio, low CCT were risk factors for progression but not disc haemorrhages or race

16
Q

What is concern if BCVA poor after trabeculectomy?

A

Low IOP, chamber shallow
Overdrainage and conjunctival leak

Can be checked for with Siedel test - fluorescein 2%

17
Q

What would blocked sclerostomy or retained viscoelastic cause?

A

Blocked sclerostomy would cause high IOP

Retained visco would cause deep AC with high IOP

18
Q

What would topical pilocapring do during aqueous misdirection?

A

Further anterior displacement of the lens iris diaphragm

Worsening of aqueous misdirection

19
Q

When does a wound leak in trab require repeat surgery

A

Profuse contant leak
Conjunctival retraction
Location of leak at the limbal edge

Slow flow leaks can be managed with contact lens

20
Q

What does using long term ocular antihypertensives do to risk of leak following trab

A

Increase risk of conj wound leak due to reduced long term health of conj

21
Q

What are side effects of acetazolamide

A

Hypokalaemia
Metabolic acidosis
Renal stones
Renal impairment
Hepatic impairment
Steven Johnson’s syndrome
SJS
Dizziness
Hypo/hyperglyacemia

CI in sulfa drug hypersesnsitvity

22
Q

What glaucoam drop may cause impotenct?

23
Q

What are side effects of topical beta blocker

A

Bronchospasm, bradycardia, fatigue, peripheral coldness, sleep disturbanceW

24
Which beta blocker consider in asthma/COPD patients
Consider cardioselective beta blcoker (more senstivity to B1 than B2 (bronchial) receptors Betaxolol
25
What is Amsler's signs in Fuch's heterochormic iridocyclitis
Twig like vessels form across angle that can bleed during lens extraction.
26
What is Ghost cell glaucoma? Treatment?
Secondary open angle glaucoma caused by degenerated red blood cells from previous vitreous haemorrahge blocking TM Aqueous suppressants Patient may require AC washout, vitrecomty, or trabeculectomy
27
What is Possner Schlossman syndrome
Uniilatearl painless cyclical acute rises in IOP Young male Associated with AC nflammation, white eye
28
What is red cell galucaoma?
IOP elevation due to hyphaema and blockage of TM
29
What is Schwart'z matsou
Uncommon secondary OAG following mechanical blcokaage of TM but is caused by photoreceptor outer segments release following RRD
